What personal data we collect and why we collect it


When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.


If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

If you inpit your data into our contact form we will use that information to communicate with you. We do not share this data with anyone and it is stored securely.


If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.


As for the vast majority of commercial websites we use analytics software to improve our customer service. Your IP address may be used in these systems so we can monitor the use of our systems and improve the customer experience and our ability to serve you.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Upon a breach being reported to us we immediately close all access to our sysrems and investigate the bresch. Where sensitive data has been lost we will immediarely inform you. We do not store transaction data on any of our systems so no credit or debit card data can be lost through our systems.

Our business is called HX5 Encrypted Ltd, we are incorporated in the UK.

We do not collect any personally identifiable information from you or your devices. We do not store personally identifiable information. We do ask you for your location and we also check to see if your phone has location turned on. We use this to help us corroborate information we get into our network. This is because if you join us we may from time to time ask you if you know anything about a specific misdemeanour we are investigating. The location data we collect is ‘Rough’ and not fine detail and we then ’round’ it to only show the state/province/county you are in. It cannot be more accurate than 80 mile radius.  We do this so that even if, in the very unlikely event our systems are accessed, your location data isn’t stored with accuracy closer that 80 miles in diameter. We encrypt all information you give to us and only hold it online for the shortest possible period. Our application will request permission to use your phone, this is to allow us to secure a unique reference so we can digitally identify your device without needing your phone number, IP address or MAC address. It also enables messages to be sent between us. 

We will not share any identifiable information with anyone without your express written permission unless lawfully required by a court to do so. Even then we will not identify you but may be forced to share any data we hold online. We only hold data for 7 days – this includes all messages you send to us – we do this, again to protect you. 

How we collect it

If you upload images,files, documents, videos to our secure and encrypted file upload system (Cisco software) or app, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. This data can establish where the item was created. We will not share any such meta data without your permission.

Contact forms
If you send us a message from the messaging facility on our website we will store the message securely to enable us to reply. We may share messages internally. You should not report wrongdoing via the website messaging facility, only via the app.

If you download our APP
We will ask you to input a username and password. This is so we can distinguish your account from others, there is no need to use your real name. We do not store your IP address or MAC address with the messaging app or in its database. We store ‘state’ level data to identify what state you are in. This does not identify your exact location but at a state level so we can understand the distribution of the app. This data will only be stored if you enable location on your device. We will provide you with three safe words so you can communicate with us outside of the application, if you lose your password for example. We will never share your details with any other organisation without your express permission.

We do not store or use any of your data for analytics on this website or in the app. We do count aggregated data but you are anonymous in this. We use aggregated data to count app downloads, count message volumes and measure app use at the state   geographic level.

What rights you have over your data
You can request to receive an exported file of data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. All the data we hold about you is anonymised in the app and its database. Data transmitted by you from your device is encrypted, stored on a database while contact is made with our analysis devices. Only then is it decrypted. If the message fails to deliver in a 36 hour window the server will delete all instances of the data or upon delivery, whichever is sooner. 

Where we send your data
Your  personal data is not shared with any other organisation without your consent, we may share aggregate data to identify number of app downloads, number of messages and state level volumes of messages and app downloads.  This will not identify you. The only time we would share data other than this is to protect your or anothers personal safety or if we are ordered to by a ‘relevant’ law court. You will be alerted in this case. If you grant us permission we will share the concerns you raise with the organisation you report upon. We will also share your data with any lawyer you want us to employ on your behalf to manage your case. The lawyer may subsequently share that data with third parties to manage the case efficiently and effectively. You will always have control over your data, information and identity details. We can act between you and the lawyer, further protecting your identity.

How we protect your data

Your data is encrypted. We hold it centrally until it is transmitted to our receiving devices, it is then deleted to stop any attempts to retrieve it from online systems. Our receiving devices are encrypted and password protected. We can remotely delete and erase our devices. Our devices are stored in physically secure and anonymous locations. We only connect to them via mobile vpn, changing IP addresses regularly.

What data breach procedures we have in place
You will be notified about a data breach. We will take devices and the server(s) offline and cause a full security review. We will self report to authorities in line with the geographic law requirements. Our server(s) are located in a secure data centre away from jurisdictions likely to request seizure of any data. Data is only stored for a short period until it is transmitted to our encrypted devices. 

Account Deletion
You can request us to delete your account and subsequent data at any time. Simply email us at Office@hx5encrypted and we will liaise with the account holder, holding your data in any of our systems. We will provide them with a code that we give to you. They will then contact you and ask you to provide the code via our mobile app, web app, hotline or email. This then prevents anyone else trying to close your account as only you will be given the code and be able to insert it into your account after you have logged in.
