EU Whistleblowing Directive – 50+ Employees

Eu-british flag - whistleblowing & risk solutions

After Brexit the UK signed a Trade and Cooperation Agreement with the EU to ensure a level playing field for cross border trade, security and respect for fundamental rights. In December 2023 the number of employees a business has to have to trigger the EU whistleblowing directive was reduced from 250 to 50.

HX5 believe this agreement means UK companies trading in the EU with more than 50 employees must have a whistleblowing application or risk EU sanctions. Sanctions can be criminal if the employee reporting something is retaliated against.

Businesses can also be fined.

What is the Trade and Cooperation Agreement?
